Wedding Cake Icing (Ajzink Vedink Kek)

Ok, we've got another dessert related recipe here. Frankly, I think most of them are going to be dessert related. Bubba (that's what I called my bubbie since I'm from the south) was a master baker, and those baked goods centered around desserts. I guess the big question is if the info on the left hand side of this sheet is related to the recipe. I'm guessing probably not since the upper right is sectioned off, but since I have no idea what the bottom left says it could be. Remember to click on the recipe to get a bigger view if you are having any problems reading it.

Wedding Cake Icing

3 1/2 cups margarine
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 ?????
1 tsp ????? (vanilla maybe?)

Sugar Cookie Recipe (Suger Kuki)

I've gone longer than I meant to between postings, but with all the life changes it's not that surprising. Parts of this recipe we have seen before, but some of it has me completely befuddled, like the text on the right hand side. I just love the way she spelled cookie!

Sugar Cookie

1 1/2 ?????
2 c Flour
1/2 c(?) sugar
soft ?????
eggs, 4 yellow egg yolks

My best guess for the text on the right hand side is "freeze dough to put", but I could be totally off base with that.

Completed Recipe

1 1/2 Butter
2 c Flour
1/2 c sugar
a pinch of salt
4 eggs
egg yolks for glazing

Freeze the dough

Piles O' Kitsch

I know this blog is supposed to be dedicated solely to Bubbie's recipes, but some of the stuff she collected is so old school I just have to share. She seemed to keep anything that had a recipe she might want to try on it, so there is a lot of great stuff like this. I'm just going to have to post more of it! :-)

Linka's Cake Recipe (Linkoz Kek)

This is the back of the recipe I posted on Friday. Initially I thought maybe there was more to the recipe on the first side, but I think its just a fairly simple sugar cookie type recipe. My best guess for this recipe is linkoz cake, the second word is DEFINITELY cake, but I'm not sure about the first.

Linkoz Cake

1 tbsp coffee
?????
10 eggs separated
Beat the whites
11 spoons ?????
10 spoons sugar
4 tsp MATZAH MEAL! (I'm impressed with myself for this one :-) )

Glaze for Egg yolk?

?????
4 ????? powder sugar
4 tablespoons what?
3 sticks margarine (What could be bad with 3 sticks of margarine?)

Completed Recipe

Linka's Cake
  • 1 tbsp instant coffee
  • 10 eggs, separated - whites beaten
  • 11 spoons of nuts
  • 10 spoons of sugar
  • 4 tsp matzah meal
Glaze
  • 4 squares of chocolate
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 3 sticks margarine

Ayer Kichel Recipe

I know my bubbie used to make Ayer Kichel all the time, but I can't remember which of her cookie shapes they were. I think that ayer is eggs and kichel is cookie, so a direct translation is simply just Egg Cookie. Most of this is relatively easy to translate, but I'm not sure what the end says; any ideas? Click on the image for a larger version if you have problems reading the one here. Also there is either more of this recipe written on the back side, or its a completely different recipe. I'll post that next.

Ayer Kichel

3 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
4 eggs (seperated) - Egg Whites Beaten
1/2 cup Wesson oil

Instructions: The instructions on this are still a bit unclear, but I think the process is that you mix the flour, sugar, oil and baking powder together. Fold in the whipped egg whites. Roll out and cut into triangles, then glaze with egg yolk and sprinkle with sugar. I have my doubts about this dough since I don't think there is enough liquid listed for the amount of flower, but I'll just need to try it, she probably added in water.

Original Guess
3 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
4 eggs (seperated)
????
1/2 ????
Sugar ?????
